Family Vacation Highlights
Big Canoe Beach Club -Monday
It’s almost 5 pm, slightly overcast and quiet this evening at the Beach Club. Due to the rainstorms, the whole place has a rather abandoned atmosphere which is perfect.
A has been making serious progress with swimming, J maintains her crown as Queen of the water, K headed straight for the edge of the lake and spent his time constructing waterways in the sand, leaving H to bounce from the rock slide to the inflatables and pool and back around.
Smoked Brisket and Library books
Tuesday, C put together his new smoker, purchased in part to help us get the most out of a meat budget, but also just because it’s super fun. J was out in the garage for the entire process, leaving the boys to help with housework.
Wednesday was the perfect day to get out and visit the library and Kroger. We stayed so long at the library playing on computers, making crafts, choosing books and completing the scavenger hunt, that H was the one to beg to leave.
Tennessee Aquarium
Thursday was truly the highlight of the week. I packed up lunches, a gallon of water, and we loaded the kids into the car for the two hour drive to Chattanooga.
I went ahead and purchased the membership pass, but failed to score the homeschool educator’s discount. Maybe next time.
Each child had a different favorite thing from the swimming penguins to the butterfly garden, the touch tanks, jellyfish, turtle nursery, and river giants. We might not have read many signs throughout the two buildings, but A found every special spot in the displays where he could “climb” inside, under or over to see like a fish, and K and H found most of the interactive games, cleaning up riverbeds, making tornadoes from microplastics, and coloring turtles.
Model Train Museum
Our week of fun ended with a trip to the model train museum in Tate, inspiring the cleaning up of legos and pulling out of the wooden train set. All four had something exciting to tell about the various displays, some “giant,” and some truly miniature.
